BON APRN Representation Bill Passes Committee
Posted over 2 years ago by Emily Eastin
On April 13, TNP Member and Legislative Ambassador Co-Chair Holly Jeffreys testified before the Senate Health and Human Services Committee in support of SB 1343, one of the priority bills on TNP’s legislative agenda that would add an APRN to the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) and ensure APRN peer review for cases brought to the BON involving the clinical standard of care. Currently there is no requirement in statute for APRNs to act as expert reviewers to assist with investigations related to alleged care violations by APRNs. And board composition has not been changed since 1999, during which time the number of APRNs has grown by 460%.
This bill was placed on the local and uncontested calendar for a vote on Friday, April 21. We will continue to update members as this bill moves through the legislative process.
We want to thank Senator Morgan LaMantia for carrying this important bill. These changes will strengthen APRN representation and peer review at the BON, while also working towards the mission of protecting patients and the public.
