Member Call to Action: HEAL Texans Act
Posted over 2 years ago by Emily Eastin
This week is a critical turning point for the HEAL Texans Act. If the bill does not get scheduled for a Senate Hearing next Wednesday, the timeline for the bill is narrowing.
Here's what you can do to help:
1. Send a Tweet to Senate Health & Human Services Chair, Sen. Kolkhorst: Please take the time to send a tweet to Chair Kolkhorst, urging her to schedule SB 1700 for a public hearing:
Families in Texas desperately need more options for healthcare. The provider shortage is getting worse, & costs are skyrocketing. We need access to local, quality healthcare we can trust. @loiskolkhorst, let's put the needs of patients first & schedule #SB1700 for a hearing.
2. Secure Letters of Support from Key Community Leaders: Reach out to judges, city council members, school board members, church leaders, non-profits, business owners, and other key members of the community and ask them to draft a letter of support for the HEAL Texans Act. We are emailing and hand delivering these letters to Chair Kolkhorst this week as she makes her decision on SB 1700. You can see a template letter of support here, and an example here.
What TNP is doing:
TNP has mobilized a group of nearly 200 TNP members who are constituents in Chair Kolkhorst’s district, and we’ve asked those individuals to call Chair Kolkhorst and request a hearing. Some of our key Coalition members, including AARP-Texas, TCCRI, NAMI, Americans for Prosperity, Texas 2036, Texas Silver-Haired Legislature, and others have met with Chair Kolkhorst’s staff to request a hearing on SB 1700 and have planned a steady stream of constituent calls and letters into her office.
We are also running non-stop Capitol ads and the Patient Voices video.
TNP will update members with any movement on SB 1700. The opposition has been tough this session, in large part due to the looming threat our Coalition and campaign continue to pose to the status quo. And tactics have gotten desperate. But we stay focused on the task in front of us, our members, and Texas patients. We will continue to fight tirelessly for what's right for Texans.
